Largely improvised by writers, directors and stars Kai Collins and Jennifer Raye Adams, as well as the rest of the talented cast, this mockumentary focuses on the art community, the artists and their entourage.
Francine Rose (April Victor) and Mary Alice (Stephanie Feldman) McGovern knew from a young age they were different. Who knew they were German avant-garde artists trapped in Irish American schoolgirl bodies?
Now as Adults, and going by the names SVTL (Jennifer Raye Adams) and Gäry (Kai Collins), they have decided to have their brother Tom (Jeff Garretson), whom they lovingly refer to as Dulslow, document their talent, their day-to-day lives and the arduous process of creating their masterpieces. This collaboration is not to the liking of his scrapbook enthusiast wife Nevadah Lyhn Putnam-Farr McGovern (Kimberley Hellem) who has been the girls arch nemesis since jr. high.
Along for the ride are the even more bizarre collection of characters who make up their entourage. Das Barnyard includes Post (Nick Vaterrot) a man whose means of transportation includes a lawn chair fastened to a dolly; Hørst (Jim Schneider) the actuary turned musician who now speaks only through his keyboard; Carly (Laureé Enos) the assistant who wants to be the first female Jewish rap star; Jack (Anders Erickson) the girls’ lover, who also happens to be and remains a virgin; his brother Lester (Jason G. Piazza) who has never held a job in his life, due to a bird bath falling on him as a child; and following them all Betsy Bartholomew (Janel Benisch) a model/singer/actress/model/stalker who has had one Lifetime movie made about her attempted killing of a classmate.
Umläut believes by documenting the creation of art they are creating art in the process; yes, like their films, they are that pretentious.
